BUSINESS GOALS & CHALLENGE

As Dr. Brian Dahmer’s patient base and service offerings expanded, his existing practice had become overcrowded and difficult to navigate. Chiropractic care, rehabilitation, and regenerative & functional medicine were all operating within the same building, leading to space constraints, workflow overlap, and patient confusion.

To support continued growth, Dr. Dahmer purchased the building next door, formerly a fitness center with sizeable restrooms, showers, and a large open gym. His goals were to:

• Separate and streamline services across two dedicated locations
• Create clearer patient pathways and improve the flow from check-in to treatment
• Reuse and repurpose existing building elements where possible to manage cost
• Maintain a warm, welcoming atmosphere that supported healing and patient comfort

The design challenge was to transform the open fitness space into a well-designed chiropractic and rehabilitation facility while preserving valuable existing infrastructure, improving efficiency, and ensuring the patient experience felt cohesive across both buildings.

SOLUTION

CrossFields redesigned the new building to house all chiropractic, traction, and rehabilitation services—while the original building shifted to focus solely on regenerative & functional medicine and house executive offices. This allowed each location to specialize, improving clarity, workflow, and patient experience.

Key Design Strategies Included:

• Strategic reuse of existing layout elements such as restrooms, a doctor’s office, and the large staff break room to reduce renovation costs.
• Unified reception zone with:
  • A welcoming check-in/check-out flow
  • Children’s area and Hospitality + Retail to the left
  • Patient seating to the right
  • Clear visual control down the main corridor for efficient wayfinding for new patients
• Centralized Hot Seat Area accessible via two barn doors, serving as the hub of patient movement.
• Four adjusting bays with low walls and illuminated acrylic dividers, allowing staff oversight and open visual connection to traction and Hot Seat zones.
• Flexible ROF/Adjusting rooms to support new patient consults and ongoing care in the same environment.
• Large rehabilitation suite equipped for hydrotherapy, decompression, E-stim, band-based therapies, and optional privacy with curtained zones.
• Staff Spaces Designed for Team Culture
  • A multipurpose break room seating ~16 with integrated video conferencing
  • Additional private staff break area behind it

The result is a highly organized, efficient, and welcoming chiropractic and rehab environment that enhances patient clarity and staff workflow—while the original building now operates smoothly as a dedicated functional and regenerative medicine center with executive offices.
