PROJECT OVERVIEW

Before a single construction dollar was spent, CrossFields’ Step 01 Discover process saved Dr. Brewer from making costly real estate decisions, ensuring her investment was directed toward a facility that truly supported her vision and business objectives.

BUSINESS GOALS & PROJECT CHALLENGE

After 8 years in practice, Dr. Jane Brewer partnered with CrossFields to complete a Step 01 Discover phase to clarify her vision, growth objectives and ideal space requirements. Her goal was to transition from a leased space into a permanent clinic that would support future growth, including the addition of another doctor and staff member.

During her search for a new location, Dr. Brewer evaluated multiple potential spaces. The first location ultimately determined to be a poor fit, as it did not support her long-term growth or operational needs. Through CrossFields discovery process, she avoided moving forward with a space that would have limited her future and saved thousands of dollars by not committing to an unsuitable investment.

The second location offered more than enough square footage; however, after further review with CrossFields, it became clear that the additional space did not align with her true business goals. Rather than taking on unnecessary overhead and attempting to grow into a larger footprint, Dr. Brewer made the strategic decision to pass on the space and continue her search.

The third location she identified—her current office—proved to be the right fit. This space supported her goals for efficiency, growth, and future stability, while allowing her to invest wisely in a right-sized footprint. The project moved forward as a remodel, transforming the existing suite into a clinic tailored to her specific workflow and vision.

Key project goals included:

  • Designing a relaxed, organized, and clutter-free environment
  • Integrating advanced diagnostic equipment, including CBCT imaging
  • Expanding back-of-house areas for staff, storage, and future growth

The challenge was to translate these goals into a highly functional layout within a compact footprint, while maintaining a cohesive design and staying within budget.

SOLUTION

CrossFields developed a strategic floor plan that organizes the clinic into clearly defined zones for reception, consultation, treatment, and staff functions. The design prioritizes flow, efficiency, and clarity—allowing both patients and staff to navigate the space effortlessly.

Once the plan was finalized, CrossFields worked closely with Dr. Brewer and the general contractor to ensure the project remained within budget. This included careful material selection and identifying opportunities to reuse existing elements from the demolition process, maximizing cost efficiency while maintaining design quality.

Key Design Strategies Included:

Efficient Zoning & Patient Flow

  • Layout based on flow relationships established during the discovery phase
  • Open sightlines from entry for easy wayfinding
  • Use of 6′ partial-height walls and movable partitions to define treatment areas

  • Electrical and data infrastructure coordinated for equipment needs

Expanded Clinical & Support Spaces

Ultimately, if you’re building something that is going to promote your growth, it’s the tiniest little drop in the bucket compared to the benefits you can reap from having a space that works for you.”
